White-headed Munia

White-headed Munia 白头文鸟 When the paddy fields turn from green to golden yellow, it is about time ready for harvest, it is also a time of celebration for a variety of birds that include these lovely white-headed munias. For certain reasons, white-headed munia seems to be less commonly seen nowadays in comparison with scaly-breasted munias. I only saw a flock of 4 over half a day in the paddy fields. When we were small, large flocks of more than 30 birds is often seen flying a cross abandoned tin-mining pools. Chestnut-capped Laughingthrush

Chestnut-capped Laughingthrush 栗头噪鹛 This is another laughingthrush. It is not commonly seen on lowland and coastal plains but it is a common sight in Fraser’s Hill especially at popular birding sites. My observation about the birds is that when they spotted food, they would appear quite boldly in a loose small group for the food despite our close proximity with them. (May 2016, Fraser’s Hill )

Blyth’s Shrike-babbler

Blyth’s Shrike-babbler 红翅鵙鹛 Birding in Fraser’s Hill often rewards you with a pleasant surprise such as this shrike-babbler which appeared on a tree just in front of the rest house we lodged in. (9/5/2015, Fraser’s Hill)
